McKinley - Rebuild
The McKinley building constructed in 1929 and expanded in 1952 (gynmasium / auditorium and 6 new classrooms) was razed in 2021
with the new McKinley building completed. This was definitely a challenge because it wasn't
a simple matter of demolishing the old building and constructing a new one because it was being built on the existing property and classes could not
be interrupted. The rendering below shows the plan which was to build the new building (shown in dark gray) to the north in the playground
areas and when complete the old building (in red) demolished making way for the new playground areas.
It should not escape your notice that there is a bit of overlap between the new and old building. The overlap was entirely within the new gymnasium area which was built in 1994. Therefore, before construction of the new building could begin, that relatively new McKinley expansion area needed to go. So for one year the McKinley kids had to live with the gymnasium we had for all our McKinley years.
